Under the LeNSin project, we recently conducted a pilot course on Sustainable Product Service System Design applied to Distributed Economics at IIT Guwahati. The course was conducted with five first year PhD scholars by Ravi Mokashi Punekar, Sharmistha Banerjee and Pankaj Upadhyay.

The course introduced the scholars to the concepts of Sustainability, Sustainable Development, Sustainable Product Service System Design and Distributed Economics.

The project involved a hands-on design assignment in which the scholars studied the Sualkuchi Silk Handloom industry. Various stakeholders - DC of Kamrup Rural, Deepak Bharali (an handloom machine innovator), loom owners, weavers, silk wholesalers and traders, Niharanjan Kalita (Sualkuchi Tant Unnayan Samiti) and Silk Testing Lab - were roped in to have a holistic view of the industry.

Here you can see glimpses of our research journey into the field. Stay in touch to know more about our design ideas and suggestions which will follow soon.
