Funding : Start-Up Grant, IIT Guwahati
Duration: December 2015 - December 2017
Members at IIT Guwahati: Pankaj Upadhyay

In this project, analyses of the design of the treadle water pump will be done from the perspective of Frugal Design. The analysis of the current design, development and dissemination of the treadle pump in the north east, along with extant literature search, will form the basis for creating a framework for the ‘Frugal design Approach’. Our Aim for this project is to design a more effective and efficient treadle water pump using this approach. For this, first, we have to develop a concrete and applicable framework for a ‘Frugal Design Approach’. Second, we will design a new treadle water pump based on the proposed framework. Upon completing the second part of the project we will be able to define a clear direction for the development of an applicable methodology.
